Hamerik: Symphony No. 7 & Requiem
Performing with: Randi Stene (mezzo soprano), Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Choir
About
During his lifetime, Asger Hamerik (1843-1923) was one of the best known Danish composers outside Denmark. Both his grand Requiem and the Choral Symphony were premiered while Hamerik was the director of the conservatory of the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, USA. Hamerik’s music echoes the grandiosity of the composer’s admired teacher, Hector Berlioz, and forms an important link in Danish music history between Niels W. Gade and Carl Nielsen.
