The Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra has announced the appointment of Thomas Dausgaard as its Principal Guest Conductor for three seasons, beginning with the 2027/28 Japanese season in April 2027.
Following his acclaimed debut with the orchestra in October 2025, Dausgaard will make his first appearances in his new role in two subscription concerts on 14 and 15 January 2028 at the Aichi Prefectural Art Theater Concert Hall. The programme will pair Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 with Langgaard’s Symphony No. 1, Klippepastoraler (Cliffside Pastorals). He will return to the orchestra on 21 January 2028 at Nagoya Civic Hall, conducting a programme of Schubert’s Symphony No. 1 in D major, D. 82, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D major, Titan.
Speaking about the appointment, Dausgaard said, “With the Nagoya Philharmonic, music-making is a spiritual experience. I am greatly looking forward to our closer collaboration in the coming years. Having studied with the Nagoya Philharmonic’s first Music Director, the magnificent Hiroyuki Iwaki, this relationship has a very special meaning for me.”
