About

Rued Langgaard (1893-1952) was a strange and lonely figure in Danish music. His 16 symphonies represent a thoughtful, original contribution to the history of the genre. The three symphonies on this CD became 1946-48, but the tonal language is provocatively conservative. Symphony No. 12 is an absurd torso with autobiographical references. In nos. 13 and 14, Langgaard revitalizes the aesthetics of romance in a simplified and cash way and with a particularly insistent emphasis.
