On Tuesday 9th June, Thomas Dausgaard and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra took to the stage at Royal Festival Hall to perform Brahms Piano Concerto No.1 in D minor and Schubert’s Symphony No.9 in C. Colin Anderson of Classical Source writes: “Dausgaard conducted from memory and opted to observe every repeat (the exposition of the first movement neatly returned to, it’s tricky to align), a stratagem that he brought off with aplomb and conviction.”
Anderson continues: “the climax was thrillingly cathartic and in its aftermath there was a pathos and a ‘distance’ that really made its mark – Dausgaard playing the long game, successfully.”
